What Wrestlers Need to Bring

Equipment Requirements

All wrestlers must have proper wrestling shoes and headgear for practice and competition. Loaner gear may be available for first-time families - ask a coach or message us.

Skin & Nail Requirements

USA Wrestling requires short, trimmed nails and skin free of rashes or communicable conditions. Wrestlers who don't pass a skin check may be held out of competition - plan ahead and check the night before Practice/Competition. If you find a possible communicable condition, see a doctor and have them fill out the Skin Lesion Form 2026–2027 that can be found in our Document Library on our website. A doctor's signature is required with a date they can return to participation - prior to being eligible to practice or compete again.

Weigh-In Information

Weigh-ins happen the morning of each Round Robin, ahead of the posted "Wrestling Begins" time. Arrive early - specific weigh-in windows are listed on each tournament event's flyer.

Varsity / JV Information

Varsity and Junior Varsity positions are earned through our team wrestle-off process. Wrestlers compete within their applicable age and weight class, with wrestle-off results determining Varsity, JV, and, when applicable, Exhibition placement. This process gives every wrestler a fair opportunity to earn their position through competition on the mat.

Varsity and JV wrestlers represent Orting in the PCJWL postseason tournament series. Wrestle-off schedules, format, eligibility requirements, and additional details will be communicated by the coaching staff during the season.

Wrestle-offs are intended for wrestlers who plan to participate in the postseason. Wrestlers who do not wish to pursue a Varsity or JV position may choose not to participate in wrestle-offs and can still compete throughout the regular-season Round Robin schedule. This can be a great option for newer wrestlers who are focused on gaining experience during their first season.

Earning and accepting a Varsity or JV position is a commitment to the team for the postseason. Because postseason roster positions cannot always be backfilled after wrestle-offs, families should only enter their wrestler in the wrestle-off process if they are prepared to fulfill that commitment through the completion of postseason competition.

Tournament Expectations

Arrive on time! Bring all Wrestling gear - Singlet, Wrestling Shoes, Headgear, Team Warm-Ups (Optional). Tournament day volunteer assignments are shared in advance — every Team is expected to help cover at least one Table (mat) per tournament (see Volunteer Info).
